The MissionLazarus's Brothers seeks to come along side those aging out of the orphanage system in Ethiopia. After surviving the loss of their family and aging out of the orphanage system these young adults have to figure out life on their own; they are higher risk for drug use, unemployment, homelessness, prostitution, and a variety of health issues. Lazarus's Brothers wants to encourage these young adults to continue on in school, learn a trade, and empower them to be self-sufficient adults.
The Vision
Help with financial assistance for school, living, and health check-ups shortly after aging out of the orphanage system.
Provide classes for financial responsibility. Provide classes for living on their own, such as cooking. Establish up a mentorship program, where there would be accountability for school and financial responsibility. Meet with students twice a year for bonding trip outside of Addis Ababa. Programs will be provided to young adults who are in school and learning a trade. Once they find a sustainable job they will be in the program as a mentor! |
The NameLazarus refers to Lazarus in the Bible. Jesus raises Lazarus from death to life in the gospel John (John 11). However Jesus didn't go to him immediately when he was sick, he waited so that God would be glorified in raising him from the dead. Often these young adults feel forgotten as they grew up in the orphanage, not having many people to turn to. We want them to know they are not forgotten, they are loved. God will use their story for His glory.
Brothers refers to both boys and girls left in the orphanage system. During the time our son's were in the orphanage they gained many friends who became brothers and sisters. "So the sisters sent word to Jesus, 'Lord, the one you love is sick.' When he heard this, Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.' " John 11:3-4 |
